What does the "Preference" refer to on this vendor screen within the item?
What does "Preference" refer to on the Vendor tab on the Edit Item screen?

The "Preference" refers to a sort order of the Vendors associated with that item. You can organize them by top preferred vendor (1) to least preferred vendor if you have multiple vendors under an item.
