I'm trying to figure out how to manage inventory in tote or pro boxes with Proceed Software, can someone help explain this?
In Proceed Software, there are a couple of options that people use. Option 1) Seed companies manage seed on a "Unit Basis". Option 2) Seed companies have different sizes for their totes and proboxes as a stocking item.
Option 1) A seed compnay will sell seed on a per unit basis. For example: Seed Corn is typically sold on an "80,000 kernel basis or sometimes called 80M". In this approach the seed company will have an item or "corn variety" with a UOM as "80M". In this scenario, the seed company will maintain inventory based on the UOM. No matter what the package type is, then'll just know that the inventory UOM is always in 80M. When a Customer orders using this approach, the order is then placed and the quantity in the sales order is its defined seed in "80M" units. For example: If the Customer orders a quantity of "10", then the order is really saying we are going to deliver a quantity of 10, 80M Units of corn to the Customer. In this approach a packaging note is placed on the Sales Order inidcating a tote or probox package would be preferred. During the picking and packing of the order, the tote or probox is chosen for the package. When the order ships, a quantity of 10 from that item is reduced from inventory and the lot number when it's added to the container. The seed item is always based on the UOM.
Option 2) Proceed Software assumes that for stocking items, you'll need to have an item in proceed where the stock sits. In this example lets say that you know that the seed company is going to sell a predetermined amount of Tote boxes or Pro boxes that have a defined quantity of seed in them. a package and therefore they must require
